  • Whom should i Consult psychiatrist, psychologist or counsellor?

    We work as a Team as different personnel in the organisation has different role in treatment.

    Psychiatrist is a specialist doctor who specialise in diagnosis, prevention & treatment of mental disorders. Psychiatrist evaluate patients to determine whether their symptoms are the result of physical illness a combination of physical & mental ailments or strictly psychiatric. Psychiatrist can prescribe medicines and may use psychotherapy & hypnotherapy as a treatment.

    Counsellor / Psychologist: A psychologist is a person who explores mental, emotional and behavioural processes. Unlike psychiatrist, a psychologist does not have medical degree and therefore cannot prescribe medicines. Psychologist may have BA / MA / PHD in psychology.

    Clinical Psychologist: They are registered as clinical psychologist with rehabilitation council of India. They have undergone M Phil or PHD in clinical psychology. They can perform psychometric IQ testing and identify mental health disorder & treat using psychotherapies or behaviour modifications.

  • When to seek help?

    If yourself, friend or your family member is having mental, emotional, behavioural issues or substance abuse help is just a phone call away.

    • Stress & Tension
    • Talking to Self
    • Stuttering & stammering
    • Obsession & compulsion
    • Retardation e.g. slowed speech, thinking or movement
    • Inability to sit still
    • Lack of energy / interest (staying in bed most of the day)
    • Phobia about animal, natural events, blood, situation such as elevators, heights, timer, flying, etc
  • What to bring when planning to get admitted as a patient?

    In one suitcase please bring 4-5 days under garments or innerwear , 7 casual wears for your patient’s stay. We have in-house no cost laundry services.

    Following list of items are prohibited in IPD area::

    1. Electronic gadgets (mobile phones, tablets, music system)
    2. Any glass or metal items
    3. Scarf, belts, shoe strings
    4. Drugs, alcohol, tobacco (cigarettes, bidi, pan-masala) Chewing gums or Supari
    5. Aerosol sprays, hair spray, mouth washes, nail polish (please note essential toiletries will be provided by the Hospital)
    6. Stuffed animals, blankets & pillows
  • Are all mental illness patients required to be restrained ?

    No Physical or verbal torture is used in our Institute. However, in rare case when the Patient imposes harm to themselves or other people around them, they may be temporarily medically restrained with a written protocol.

  • Do all patients receive shock therapy / Electro-convulsive therapy (ECT)?

    No – ECT / shock therapy is only effective in cases of severe depression, Schizophrenia, acutely suicidal patient who are neither manageable nor improving with medication. We, at DIP are duly licenced under the relevant and applicable laws of land including the Mental Health Act 1987, permitted to use the ECT facilities under strict and guided protocol and code of ethics or emergency or clinical diagnosis. Although as a part of modern treatment, ECT is rarely used. If, at all to be used, written consent of patient & family members is essential prior to use.

  • Is smoking or chewing tobacco allowed?

    No, DIP is a Deaddiction Centre with strict no-smoking zone. DIP follows a no-tobacco policy in our Patients and staff. Any kind of Substance Abuse is disallowed in the Institute.

  • What will be the role of family while patient is receiving indoor treatment?

    Family persons or relatives of the Patients may be asked to visit the hospital to get detailed history of the patient and / or for family therapy. Doctor may ask patient’s relative to visit the doctor on a regular interval to discuss about status of the Patient at IPD. No family member will be allowed to visit patient in IPD without prior notice.

  • What care to be taken by patient and relative after discharge?

    It is the responsibility of the family members to keep watch on patient’s treatment whether they are regularly taking medicines as per doctor’s prescription, to bring them for regular follow-up and informing hospital about any change in behaviour or worsening of illness as well as side effects of prescribed medications.

  • What are the characteristic features of ‘Addiction’?

    According to DSM – V, the few of the criteria of Substance Use Disorder are :

    • Decreased attendance & performance at work or school
    • Increased conflict & relationship issues
    • Changes in sleep & energy levels.
    • Legal problems associated with continues substance abuse.
    • Numerous failed attempt to stop using substance
    • Tolerance means need more dose to achieve desired effect.
    • Dependence means Withdrawal symptoms when not using.
    • Craving means continuous desire to use substance.
